Isat sample types

Good Monday morning all,

For those of you that have done your Istat software update, have you had any issues with your customized sample types?  I have had a couple of samples this weekend that had "other" as the sample type and we don't usually have that option.  I went back to find the tech bulletin on the upgrade and it seems this software update resets the sample types to a default list vs your customized list.  According to the TB it seems like you have to set the customized list on each Istat even if you have customized ones on DE.  I called Abbott this morning to verify and you do have to change it on each Istat.  It's mostly our Cardiac unit that has special sample types, but I wanted to see if anyone else had run across this issue and to give you a heads up if you are updating your CLEW.

Thanks

Adonica

Yes! I posted about this on the other listserv and I thought I put it on here but I must have gotten side tracked! I discovered it the same way - Other entered for a troponin and we didn't have that defined in QML. Why they chose 'other' when running though, I'll never know...

When you update your meters to CLEW40 - each handheld will default to only offer the sample types that are approved for each cartridge. Example - CG8 will offer Art, Ven, Cap but CG4 will only offer Art and Ven. If you use customized sample types like we do, you will have to manually change each meter back to it's custom samples types after you do the clew update. Directions for this are in Technical Bulletin 765893-00A

I have a WebEx with my Abbott rep today about this. She gave me a brief overview last week and sent me the TB. I did however hear a horror story from Telcor who called me about something else but the CLEW update came up in the conversion. I held off starting the CLEW because I wanted our API survey finished before the update. I am glad I did.

We have already updated the CLEW in most of our iSTATS, so today's discussion gave me a scare.  Limiting sample types by cartridge type seems like a good idea.  I ran a CG4 cartridge to see what would happen.  The choices which came up were ART, VEN, Mix, CAP and CORD.

Hey Terry, do you guys use special sample types for cardiac surgery, ECMO or cath lab?   Those were the ones that we to worry about because they have different collection sites.  If they don't use different sites then you should be good :).

We don't have any unique sample types.  I just learned that the CLEW changes did not affect us because we use STAT NOTES.
