Capillary sites for the Nova Meter

Good Morning everyone,
I need some assistance. We currently use the Accucheck meter for glucose testing but will be switching to the Nova Meter very soon. One of our education coordinators inquired about using the "earlobe tip" as a capillary option on patients who have PAD/PVD. In doing research, the Accucheck meter itself has not been FDA approved to use that site for capillary collection. Does anyone know if the NOVA meter can be used to obtain capillary blood from the "earlobe tip"? I tried to find some literature, but have not been successful. Thank you in advance for any assistance.

This is taken from the Nova StatStrip manual:
The StatStrip Glucose Hospital Meter System is intended
for point-of-care, in vitro diagnostic, multiple-patient use for
the quantitative determination of glucose in capillary finger
stick, venous whole blood, arterial whole blood, neonate
arterial whole blood, and neonate heel stick specimens.
I double-checked the actual package insert jic of an update and it states the same.

Hi Brenda,
If you go to the FDA website or do a websearch for Nova StatSTrip 510K, that will tell you for what sites the meter has been approved. I checked the 510K very briefly and under sites it states "capillary blood, (e.g.fingerstick"). Hope this helps you. You could also coutact the NOVA rep for tht document.
