Is anyone using their Sofia for COVID testing?

What is your process if you are- Sending out for confirmation? PPE required, etc.

Hello

We are in the process of adding SARS testing to our Sofia 2 analyzers and working out the logistics of it all.  They will be performed in our 2 Express Care Units for the beginning of flu season. 2 nasal swabs one for flu and one for SARS. PPE will be eye protection/face shield, masks, gloves.  Working on an algorithym for patients that test negative for both Flus & COVID.

Currently the microbiology lab in the hospital has 2 Sofia analyzers but we now have an ePlex that can do Respiratory Panels for flu season (currently running COVID testing on preop patient), 2 Abbott ID_NOW units (running our ED patients getting admitted).
We may use the hospital based Sofia analyzers for....? That's the question.

We will hopefully get more analyzers in October or November as HHS has allocated them to congregate care settings.

Big task ahead of us all!

Would you like all the specifics once we go live with testing?  I would like to share information with others working with the same intrumentation.

Thank you

Bumping this up since I just got word that our ambulatory sites got approved to use the Sofia 2 for COVID testing. If anyone is going to be using this or is using this now please let me know how it's going.

Feel free to email me at anastasiaaugustine@chifranciscan.org

Thanks!

We are using it but not as POC yet.

WE are doing the Sofia Covid test in the lab.  Not POC.

Nursing don’t have the time.

We test everyone who comes for surgery.

Negative still needs to be confirmed by PCR which is a send out for us.

So samples from   ER  are done by PCR.
