Result Processing

How are your sites handling the processing of panels that have results held in the middleware, Telcor, for review ( >< or ***) with the thought that the nurse/physician has already seen and acted on these results? For Example, a >8.0 K is held for review, to the POC tech it seems like an erroneous result but the result may or may not been repeated. Do you send it to the patient chart to document something was done or not? Please elaborate on reasoning WHY you chose your option.

We do not hold >< results for review. Since the nurse doing the test is at the bedside and has a better idea than I do as to if the result is something they expected or not. Our procedure says that if they require a more specific number than < or > that they should send a sample to the lab. If they have a result that they don't think matches the clinical picture they will contact us in POCT to have it removed.
*** are never reported out unless they get our medical directors permission and then we add a disclaimer on it that the results may be invalid. Abbott has stated that they will not stand behind any results that have an * so we don't report any of the results from that cartridge.
