Hello All,
My name is Ashley Liles. I have just begun a new job as POCC. My facility has never had a POC so I am having to build it. If you have any tips, tricks, suggestions, etc. please let me know.
Thank you!

Esther, I totally agree with you. Networking is so key to achieving compliance. This kind of auditing is called a "Gemba Walk." Its a time when you stand back and observe processes at the time of care. It gets you away from the numbers and into the people real world so you can see first hand areas that need improvement.
Thank you for your comments.

Esther I agree with you 100%.
When I first took over my position there had not been anyone with their entire focus on POCT for awhile so the clinics did not have the oversight they should have. I had to work to build up the trust and walk that fine line of helping them out encouraging them but at the same time stopping and retraining on the incorrect behaviors I found. It took some time to build up that trust but now they reach out to me and ask BEFORE they try and do something or when they want to make sure they are doing everything correctly.
You need to make the effort to build those relationships with your managers, supervisors and all the employees who are doing to the testing at your sites. I am a firm believer that getting "in the trenches" with the staff who are running the tests I am over will help them know who I am, what I do, how I want it done and that I am there to help them and not just look for issues. I always ask when I am onsite at a clinic (no matter why I am there) if they have any questions, how are things running, any issues, anything you want to talk about, ect.
This year (before COVID-19 hit) we started a comprehensive "rounding" at all our clinics. I will look at all things to do with POCT, lab supplies and blood drawing. We piloted it at multiple sites so we could get feedback from the clinics to see what they thought of the process, what we were looking at and any major disruptions in the clinic flow. We had good response and although we have suspended it for the time being I think this will help with catching any potential issues before they get to be bigger problems PLUS it will get me out at the sites and continue to build and strengthen the relationships with the staff and management.
