HemoCue PDS+ Interface Alarm

We just added a new HemoCue and PDS+ dock (the first interfaceable unit we've added in over 4 years) and discovered the new dock software requires constant communication with the data management system or the instrument beeps every 20 seconds.  I contacted HemoCue believing that I could silence the beep or change a configuration but apparently the company believes this higher maintenance requirement is a benefit and there is no work-around.  The new instrument does not sit snugly in an old dock--I already tried that.  Point of Care does not have an "extra" computer to leave logged in all the time, even in the background--our computers are laptops that travel with us so are powered off quite often.   Our only options that I see at this point are to get an "extra" computer just to satisfy this one new HemoCue dock, give the location a non-interfaceable instrument and implement a manual log, or begin transition to a less "demanding" testing platform--none of which I want to do.  Our interfaceable instruments are at different clinics in different cities with no central governing body except Point of Care who is located "off campus" (in a rented building) so utilizing a non-POC computer at one of the sites or in another non-POC area isn't logistically possible, either.....Anyone have any strokes of genius?

Esther,  Your post caught my attention because we have one location with the problem you’ve described…the meter keeps communicating and BEEPING.  I’ve replaced the meter, the dock and all wires.  My IT person can’t figure it out.  Now I
have a clue!

Hi Esther,

I don't know if it will work for you but we have our HemoCue connected to a server that IT configured and keeps up all the time.  We remote into it if we need to add/update or modify anything.  The only time we have an issue is after "Server Sunday" when someone forgets to open the HemoCue software.

This is a DM and it's pretty old so it doesn't beep but the red light on the dock flashed red instead of green but it might be an option.
