i-STAT Validation

We are updating some of our i-STAT fleet to align with current wireless security standards, 5GHz.  Curious if you all are validating the cartridge or the analyte.  Thanks!

We do the analyte :)

Hello Sonya, last year I enabled the wireless option on all our i-stats.

We opened a ticket and created a project with both the vendor (Abbott) and our IT team and LIS.  We tested the functionality and made sure that it worked by looking for results for cartridges (CG8, Chem8, ACT....)  in use in the EMR, without having to dock the meter.

Hope this helps.

I think Anita is swapping out the actual devices, from what I understand. So when we swap the actual device out with a replacement or a newer model, we do a validation of the analytes being use on that device. However, when we validated the wireless capability, yes, we worked with our IT/LIS dept, middlware, and Abbott to make that happen. Hope that clears my answer up.

Ok, if that is the case, perform full validation, CAL/VER & Patient Correlations for each Cartridge type.

We don't do full. Remember, you're not validating the method (cartridge), you're only working up a new device. The only difference in model is the added wireless security feature, so I would not perform a full validation. We do cal ver, liquid QC, and simulator.

we follow Medical Director Recommendation.
