NOVA meters in the nursery

We recently switched from the AccuChek meter in our health system to the Nova StatStrip meter. We have had some concerns raised by the staff managing the neonates that the values are running lower with the new meter. These lower values trigger specific treatment protocols.
Has anyone else had issues with low glucose values for neonates? If yes, how did you handle it?

When providers raise concerns about values running lower, it warrants investigation to get to the facts. During the switch did your health system perform method correlations? This will demonstrate any negative bias and can be addressed before implementation of the new method.

A correlation study was performed as part of the implementation process and showed a slight negative bias. Values received on newborns has been lower than anticipated and has raised concerns.

Hi Donna,
Is it possible that nurses are not warming the heel? If its too cold it may be difficult to get a good drop causing staff to squeeze or "milk" the site and leading to a diluted sample from tissue fluid contamination.
We too have seen in nursery and nicu staff questioning and repeating when results are low. The second result will always be higher.
