Nova Docking Station Cleaning/Disinfection

Hi all! We are trying to figure out how best to implement the updated IFUs stating that the docking station must be cleaned and disinfected every 3 days. It's a bit disappointing that we can't send an automated message to the device every three days. We are floating around using MTE or sending messages every 3 days for a set period of time. If you're using the Nova StatStrip glucometers, how are you planning on implementing this change at your facility?

Cleaning and Disinfecting the Meter and Docking Station
The StatStrip Glucose Hospital Meter should be cleaned and disinfected after each patient use to minimize the risk of transmission of blood-borne pathogens between patients and healthcare professionals.

Healthcare professionals and others should follow Good Laboratory Practice guidelines and these important safety instructions.
Healthcare professionals should ensure they are wearing protective gloves when disinfecting the meter or docking station and should sanitize their hands following approved guidelines after handling the meter.
Also, there may be some disagreement on this here within the forum but I've always understood Manufacturer "recommendations" to be interpreted by Regulatory as "required". I recommend caution to those who interpret this update as a "recommendation".
Also, since this has been mentioned a couple times in previous replies, just wanted to share that as of March 2026, Joint Commission is now inspecting only to manufacturer requirements, not recommendations, for waived testing. Obviously, if your written procedure is more stringent than the requirements, they'll hold you to your written procedure. Notification of this change can be found here: Joint Commission News - March 2026 | Joint Commission.
