Good afternoon,
When providing access to newly trained personnel for glucose testing, are you providing access using the hospital ID number or creating a unique barcode assigned to that associate? And entering that number in your middleware ie ....UNIPOC, Telcor, etc...?

Speaking for myself - I make every effort to have all training activities conducted on their unique ID, so as to create a complete record of all activities done by that person. Employees have a barcoded employee number on their badge and if they do not have their badge in time for training, then they hand-enter their employee ID into the device.
Access to our newly trained personnel for any POC testing is through (numeric) employee badge numbers. Currently, our employee badges where I work are not issued with barcodes; we (POCCs) issue barcodes to attach to the backside of the badge case for scanning.
I would not want to take on creating or managing unique numbers for operators!
We use StatStrips and TELCOR. You can use the employee ID numbers as the operator code and enter their name and location (department). We prefer mnemonics because that is what our LIS and system email uses - either way, results are traceable to the operator. Another nice feature is that TELCOR will not allow the same code for more than one user.
Note: It is easier to manually enter a numerical ID if you do not have a barcode. (We also found printed barcodes on items other than a badge).
