Epic CSN barcodes - pediatrics

We are transitioning to Epic and will now be using the CSN for patient ID. Can anyone share what your armband set up looks like? Currently, Grand Central has the armband looking like this. The POC meters do not like this - it's too long, too short, not enough border, etc. Also, we band little wrist and ankles and the barcode wraps around. Nothing is capable of scanning a curved barcode like that.

They currently also have leading digits in the code - We have set Nova and iSTAT to ignore those. Still investigating if Hemocue and DCA can truncate. I appreciate any help!

What middleware are you utilizing? We had the same problem with each ID having the "AC prefix". There is also a "QR" aztec configuration barcode on our patient bands. We needed EPIC to remove the AC prefix from the linear barcode for POCT. Pharmacy and other hospital locations would use the QR code. The middleware build was set up so the patient ID was acceptable with both the AC prefix and without it since some devices are able to mask leading or terminal barcode characters and some are not.

We have Telcor.

I'm leaning towards having them remove the AC from the linear barcode but they still need to figure out how to make it talled and shorter.
They say they do not have room on the band for the QR code for non-POC use but I think they need that.

Telcor can be programed to drop the AC as well. We have a small 2D barcode in the top right corner of the label for glucometers to scan. We also have the 2D on the armbands. Epic can also build a separate POC label and RN print on the floor they just select the POC label instead of chart label for example. Best of luck.

We had to have grand central modify the barcodes many times during our Epic transition 2 months ago. I would push for them to make your barcode a little bigger, as our Statstrips and iSTATS had a hard time scanning small ones. We had the most issues with our pediatric bands because of the size of the barcode. Best of luck to you during this transition!

Our adult & pediatric armbands include a QR code in addition to the long barcode.
