I just want to know from the group if you allow patient care techs to run CG8+ cartridges ( moderately complex) on the i-STAT.

No.  The State of Georgia requires that Point of Care Technicians fit the following requirements.

We use the EG7 (blood gas without the glucose) in our Emergency Dept and the Operating Room - in both locations "techs" with minimum high school diploma and appropriate training and competency perform testing.

We are located in Pennsylvania

Yes, we do.  As long as they have a high school diploma.

Hope this helps,

Patty

No, we do not allow patient care tech or NA to run iSTAT testing ( moderately complex). I am from NJ.

We only allow techs and paramedics in the ER and anes techs in the OR to use it.  Patient care tech's on inpatient floors and ICU's do not use the iSTAT.  Ivy

The minimum requirement for testing moderate complexity test is a high school education /GED

unless the  state you are in require more than that. .

They can run CG8+. They can be trained.

But you need to educate them on the significance of the results and what they mean.

They have to be aware of reference ranges and critical result interpretation.

No, we do not.  Patient care techs do not perform any POC in the facility.

We do not allow any PCT staff to perform I-STAT testing
