Glucose Testing on Isolation Patients

We are awaiting Joint Commission inspection. We need to know how other Health Care facilities are handling glucose testing with glucometers on Isolation patients. We use Nova StatStrip meters.
Specifically:
- How do you handle glucometers going in and out of isolation rooms? Do you bag the meter? Or do you have a dedicated meter to that room/patient?
- What is your glucose testing process if you have dedicated meters for isolation patients? One container of strips per room? How do you prevent waste of unused strips from a dedicated strip container?
- Have you had any feedback in regards to your methodology from any accrediting agencies?
Any input will be greatly appreciated!!!
Thank you in advance!!!

Our nurses get the device ready to scan the patient id then place a glove over the device and allow a hole for the strip. once in the room they scan the patient before touching anything and then perform the venipuncture. After that they immediately wipe down the meters.
We clean all meters with a bleach based product. We do not isolate the meters for isolation patients. Never had an issue with accrediting/regulating agency.

We have NOVA meters also. We keep a strip in the room and the vial discarded after the patient left the room.
We bag our meter in a clean, new, biohazard specimen bag ( you can buy clear, thin bags from NOVA but they are expensive).
Place the meter base ( scanner) towards the opening and the screen on the clean side ( no writings) of the bag.
The biohazard bags are thicker and does not scan well as compared to the NOVA bags.
You can scan the strip vial, and armband through the bag opening.
Seal the bag, make sure all air is out.
To place a strip to the meter: Press the bag so the you can grab the area of the strip port.
Keep it taut.
The corner of the strip is pointed. Press the pointed corner of the test strip to the strip port.
It should go in very easily. Do the test.
Your meter is untouched but you still have to wipe the meter with bleach wipe before placing back in the dock.
