Competencies

I am working on revising our education for our I-STAT, glucometer and Hemochron's. Would anyone be willing to share how your program is ran? I am wanting to try to incorporate more online training as well as put an actual process in place. Currently there is only "glucometers in orientation and rest is when you get to the floor and hopefully we can find a BSN that meets the requirement". TIA

We do training for glucometers and gastric pH at nurse orientation. The rest of our training is done when the nurse is orienting to the floor they will be working on. The nurse educator for that area does the training and it is logged in MediaLab using a checklist that was built for each test.
On going competencies consist of an online test sent through MediaLab and then a visual competency is completed each year at Mandatories (Skills Fair). The visual competency is then logged into MediaLab using the checklists. We just stared using the checklists this year. This is allowing us to go completely paperless. So far the nurse educators love it. We will see what inspectors think.
I would be interested to see what they think. The ones I had this year said that there was supposed to be 2 visuals. One for the direct observation of patient testing and "blind". I want to use something like MediaLab, but I doubt we will get approved for this :(. Thanks for the great input though :).
Me too, I am really interested in what they think.
