We are in the process of switching our flu testing as well as strep and possibly RSV. I would love to get input from anyone that is using the Alere-i or the Sofia, since these are the two instruments that we are considering.

I see you have not yet received any response to your question about Alere I vs Sofia. I would just share a thought or two with you. Alere I and Sophia are two different test methods so be sure to evaluate sensitivity/specificity for all specimen types as well as cost of each method. They are both excellent, however, according to the CDC Influenza testing guidelines, not all testing should be molecular. Sophia would be a RIDT and Alere I is molecular/PCR.
My organization is presently implemented an influenza testing algorithm in our facilities based on the CDC and Society guidelines. I encourage you to use these along with the FDA Influenza testing reclassification rules as you consider your methods and testing protocols. This is a great opportunity to match up method selection with clinical treatment and ensuring principles of antimicrobial stewardship are followed.
