QC in clinical settings

Does anyone have information on the storage of QC in a medicine/vaccine refrigerator? I've heard from nursing, education, clinic managers, and my director on what they "think" should be done but want a governmental agency's answer.
These would be in clinics with very little space for storage and only performing WT. The alternative if it is a no go would be to use RT QC and just order these more frequently.

Here is the response from Joint Commission on it:

Should be handled as any biohazard as far as storage.
With regard to storing in the same refrigerator as medication, a TJC inspector once told me that as long as it is on a different shelf of the unit, it may be stored in the same refrigerator. I no longer have clinics that participate in TJC so I don't regularly check the standards as to whether they might have changed, though.
Hi, in addition to what the Accreditation Standards 'say', one thing we also have to abide by is State vaccine storage regulations. Frankly for us they are more strict than what TJC Standards are. I only know about State vaccine storage regulations due to working in Clinics Administration.
Just a thought that some of the info you may get from nursing/infection control may not be exactly based on TJC Standards. Good Luck, Peggy
Regulating agencies other than TJC may have different standards. HFAP sent me information on this topic. They stated “Hazardous Materials may not be stored with food products, dressings or medications”.
Though I have had CAP inspections allow the products to be stored in the same refrigerator, just on different shelves.
