LeadCare II sample collection

We are bringing lead testing in house using LeadCare II . Do you all find collecting the sample to be straightforward? I have my reservations, as staff have struggle collecting 40 uL of blood for a cholesterol test, and this test takes 50uL from a child.

Would anyone be willing to share a copy of their LeadCare II procedure? The manufacturer sent the product inserts in PDF format and I find it nearly impossible to edit PDF files.

Thank you in advance for any advice getting this new system up and running.

Just emailed you a copy of our procedure. Are Peds staff and phlebotomist have had no issues, but nurses who have not done fingersticks in a while are struggling.

Another issue we found was that we were getting a lot of high results. Further investigation found that there is lead in our hand soap! Per the state of Michigan it is OK to use alcohol prep pads for cleansing the finger.

Does anyone use a method or testing platform other than Magellan? We have been asked to investigate lead testing and wondered about other methods, cost of the supplies, accuracy/false positives with the Magellan etc. We currently have a system that we are merging with who performs the test and were considering dropping the performance of it due to issues we experienced way back during the recall issues. I would really appreciate any information and guidance.

The Magellan Leadcare II is the only waived POC lead testing. The company has another device to test for lead, but it is Mod complexity.

Does anyone have any statistics on 'false positives'--how does the method compare with the venous when it is high? What are the costs in comparison to sending the test out to a reference lab.
