Our site is struggling with BHCG cartridge QCC 149.  Our BHCG cartridge failure rate is greater than 10 % for the last 4 months. Abbott tech support is aware
and an investigation is pending. We have performed ceramic conditioning, reviewed and addressed cartridge storage, specimen collection, competency and replaced iSTATs at the sites but have not been able to reduce the number of QCC 149s.

There is a new rapid blood-based hCG test that can detect down to 10 mIU/mL using just a few drops of capillary/venous whole blood, plasma, or serum and very cost friendly. If anyone would like more information my email is morgan.peterson@nowdx.com. I am happy to help in anyway that I can.

Does anyone have experience with the ADEXUSDx hCG Test?  Pros, cons, cost, etc.

Steven - I have a number of large health systems currently using the ADEXUSDx hCG Test. Would you like me to introduce you to gather further information about their experience? My email is morgan.peterson@nowdx.com. Please email me and I can assist you with further information.

Thanks!

Morgan

I sent 5 separate lot numbers back to Abbott this month for 149s at all seven of our facilities.

They are currently investigating.

We implemented i-Stat BHCG last month and most of the error codes showing up for the cartridges have been the 149s. I let our training tech and the sales rep know since it is making the staff hesitant to use them for testing. Very frustrating...

I agree with you, it is frustrating for the staff. We have been using this assay since 2016. We have been noticing increased QCC 149 since July 2017. Our %
QCC for this cartridge type is about 20% and we run about 250+ BHCG tests a month.  Has Abbott offered any resolutions?

I just sent 30 cartridges back for the same thing.  I opened a case with Abbott and they are investigating.  I thought the cartridges seemed to be more sensitive to being at room temperature.  The operators are told to only have a few at room temperature do not have multiple boxes out at a time. I'm not sure if this really helped but I felt it was a start.

We sent back BhCG cartridges in August, and received the report "the results of our investigation confirm the lot is achieving its intended performance versus our internal  specifications when tested as described" It was lot N17094 and Abbott stated that no other sites had reported code 149 from this lot.

This week I have called and reported greater than 10% code 149 on lot N17202.  I did not have any of the lot to return for an investigation.

Sounds like something to do with the cartridge manufacturing
