Bias on iSTAT cartridge

Hello all, just wanted to see what others think about what can cause a bias for the past three CAP surveys (AQI) for pO2 on the iSTAT CG8+ cartridge. There is a positive bias. I was thinking it could be an issue with the analyzer.

I though we were the only ones. Please call CAP and report it. They will make adjustments if this was wide spread and not just one institution failing the pO2 (positive bias) and pCO2 (negative bias). They will ask you to submit documentation to your claim and send it to a committee for evaluation. I think that is the material, because the repeated, fresh sample, was the same.

I wonder if this is something from Abbott. We just changed to a new batch of Troponin cartridges (from L to A) and noticed a large shift in the QC results on the LOT to LOT comparison.

Yes...I have seen this happen with a lot change (i.e. L to A vs. P#### to P####). I do patient correlations to make sure the lot change is not affecting patient results.
We failed pCO2 on the low side for the first time on one analyte this past survey. All our pCO2 results the past year have the negative bias so I know pathology will want more info. My question for the group is what cartridge type is used. We use the CG4 for all CAP samples as it covers the range of analytes. I do see that CG8 cartridges run slightly higher on QC material. If the majority of people run CG8 then those of us who do CG4 may always be lower. Thoughts? I have a call into Abbott but have not heard back yet. ivy
