TELCOR and Bio-Rad Quantify Plus control for Urine

Hello everyone!

We are about to embark on getting our Cliniteks interfaced with Telcor. Hooray!

Question: We use Bio-Rad Quantify levels 1 and 2 for our urine QC. When you open a vial of QC, it expires 31 days after opened. How do you capture this in Telcor especially when they open new vials and now the new expiration date applies? Can someone give me some guidance on how to deal with this.

Thanks and have a fantastic day!!!!

Although the QC expiration date can be entered into the Clinitek STATUS, it either doesn't get captured in the data stream to Telcor QML, or QML doesn't acknowledge it.  We use the Clinitek here too and that would make for a better report, so I have posed the question to Telcor to see if it's possible.

Update - Telcor notified me that the Clinitek STATUS does not send the QC expiration date to downstream systems - plus, Telcor does not currently have an expiration date field defined for aqueous QC, to file it in.

So, how does one monitor QC? Suggestions please.

Thanks,

Julie

You can still generate reports from Telcor with all the information except for the QC product's expiration date.

So do you ask them to keep a log of their QC opened and new expiration dates???

QC bottles in use are labeled with their opened date and opened-expiration date.  No running log.  Nor have I seen that required from any regulatory agency.

James,  We have used the Clinitek Connect and we were doing the Clinitek UA and HCG. WE have to enter the QC log every time we do one. It is a pain.

We have to disable the Disposable in Telcor for the Urinalysis portion. I want to know how you charge UA dipstick without deleting duplicates if it is sent to lab for confirmation.  Right now we just have the UHCG connected but not the UA.

We had problem on how to charge UA without committing duplicate charges.  You cannot unbundle the UA charges.

We use Quantimetrix Dipper QC and the QC lot and expiration date are embedded in the barcode on the vial. We train our staff that they must barcode the vial rather than manually
enter the information.  This way the barcode information is captured and sent to Telcor so the expiration date is right there with the lot number in the same field in Telcor-the Sample ID Field.  The “opened exp date” is written on the vials and the vials
are discarded based on or before that date.  The operator doesn’t even know the unopened exp date because we hide it with a sticker, and monitor that expiration date through our department.

Yes, that would be an advantage of the Quantimatrix Dipper QC - the BioRad product does not even have a barcode on it, so I add my own.  But yes, at least having it in the lot number field is better than not at all.

What's the room temp stability of the Quantimatrix product?  I think at the time I was looking BioRad had the longest, so that's why I went with it, in spite of not having a barcode.

Pet -

We bill for both the POCT UA and the lab UA if it is sent for microscopic or culture.  Thus far we have not come across problems, unless the duplicate charge is automatically getting dismissed by an automated system, and that is why.  I anticipated problems with billing, but thus far, none - fingers crossed.

James,

Once opened the Quantimetrix Dipper we use is stable for 3 months REFRIGERATED.

Would it be possible to add the exp date the the barcoded lot number, since you already add a barcode? We also used to add a barcode until they started putting one on the vial.

Yes, I was just looking at trying to do that yesterday with my barcoding software but it seems to not want to barcode alpha characters - have to figure that out Undecided.

Thanks for the tip!

I believe the Quantimetrix Dipper expired once you dipped it 20 times. So if you do daily QC, the QCs will have only 20 days expiration date. It depends on how often you perform QCs.

Yes, that is true. We put stickers on them for UA with the numbers 1-20 and instruct them to cross off with each dip.  Also, they will expire within 3 months if testing is not
performed daily or if using for hCG (needs to be different vials than the ones used for UA). They usually can’t last 20 UA dips, though, because the vial gets too low to be able to dip the strip.
