CAP inspector recommended enhancing our tracking an policy for the name of the RN notified of a critical POC glucose by the patient care associates (PCA).
We currently document operator, date time, result and a comment RN notified. Std states full name. The PCAs are required to document who they notify in the HIS.
How are you meeting this part of the CAP STD, Name of RN notified?
How are you tracking ?

Hello Karen,
You can refer to All Common Check list item number COM.3000 Critical Result Notification. The last paragraph in the Note states " In the point of care setting, the identity of the testing individual person notified need not be recorded when the individual performing the test is the same person who treats the patient. In this circumstance, however, there must be a record of the critical result, date and time in the test report or elsewhere in the medical record."
If an MA/NA or patient tech. is performing a glucose and giving the result to an RN. If you can find the nurse acting on the result in your EMR, you should be all set.
Hope this helps.
We have EPIC and the documentation of treatment will populate in the patient's chart when the RN treats the patient.
