Autorecertification for Statstrip in QML/Telcor

Does anyone in the group use autorecertification in QML or the eLearning function? It would be so nice to be able to get rid of some paper for competencies. Specifically for StatStrip.

Yes, our operators are automatically recertified when their annual comp is due. Telcor looks back to see that they have performed a successful QC run in the last six months, and if so they are recertified for another year.

We are using eLearning in Telcor. We have our hospital learning system (Success Factor) connected with Telcor. It pulls in the operators successful completion of annual competency, then looks for 2 levels of QC in the previous 90 days. Then it will automatically recertify. We use this for our Inform II meters. For our other devices, we have the learning program download the annual competency, then we have other requirements if the test is mod complex to get the person recertified. This saves us a LOT of time!
How do you complete the observation part of competency assessment?
In our state, operators are not required to complete all 6 elements of competency assessment for waived testing, those rules only apply to non-waived tests such as iSTAT. For glucometers we do complete hands-on training and direct observation is part of that initial training, but for competency assessment which is completed annually thereafter, we do 1) a written test which is part of their computer based training course and 2) Monitoring of each user's quality control performance. This meets CAP, CLIA and Joint Commission requirements in the state of Colorado. You would need to check if your state has additional requirements.
Thank you Silka. That applies to PA and NY as well. I am looking into opportunities to streamline our competency process. This helps!
Silka what process did you use to determine how many patient specimens and QC specimens an operator needed to do to recertify? During an inspection did the inspectors have any issues with this process?

Kathleen did you have to pay for a interface between your facilities continuing ed system to connect with Telcor?

Sylvia, we did not have to pay anything extra for eLearning in Telcor. However, it could be because of the type of contract we have with them. It would probably be a good idea to check with someone at Telcor. Our hospital learning systems just needed to format a report, and QML comes in and picks it up and updates the operators. The learning systems did not charge for this.
Is there anyone in this group that uses autorecertification in QML and is willing to talk to me about the process. I would really appreciate the help.

Thank you, Sylvia
We used to use autorecert for years but when I changed my competency process we removed that feature. Feel free to contact me offline if you have specific questions.
