AACC Point of Care Certification

I was looking to see if anyone has taken the AACC Point of Care certification exam.  My co-worker and I were planning on taking it this year and wanted to see if anyone could give us pointers on what to study for.  The outline AACC provides is very broad.

Thanks so much!

I'd be interested in that also. We formed a study group but I didn't get to participate in many of the study sessions due to the timing. I think several people benefitted from it and went on to take the exam.

I took the exam some years back.  AACC had an on-line program and you took the exam at the end.  It was very helpful.  It covered Quality Management; end users; website development; policies and procedures; instrumentation; conductivity; education and training; administration and communication.

I took the exam last year when I took over as POCC. I studied each chapter and highlighted areas of importance. The exam was not too terribly hard but does require some studying. I still refer to the study material for ideas.

I took the exam for CPP. I held a study group online once a week where we covered sections of the study guide each week. The study guide was broad but made more sense after I took the exam. I have seen good success with our study group participants on passing. I do there is room for improvement on the guide. You need to take each topic listed and dissect it. Use the reference material. I bought one of the books for POC, Point of Care Testing: Principles and Clinical Applications. I felt it was a nice addition to my study materials. Tietz was not as helpful to contribute to the exam. Read the Online resources and the Journals too. Good Luck!

The new AACC CPP certification is not the same as the AACC Point of Care Specialist certificate program. It is an actual certification, and the first exam was in November 2018.

Congratulations to all who went down path to pay for the exam!

And congratulations to those who received word that they 'passed' - it's OK if you brag here, we know you want to! (it's only natural!)

Proud of all for trying to push the limits where they work to be recognized as Certified POC Professionals.

So what's the difference between the CPP cert and the POC Specialist Cert? How do you choose which to do?

I passed!  It was harder than I expected it to be.  There were a few questions where I didn't think there were any correct answers.  Tongue out  I know they took a long time to grade our group so maybe they have tweaked some of the questions going forward.  The study group was helpful and I would recommend someone start one for the next test session.

Congratulations to everyone who was brave enough to take it and especially to those who have new initials for their badge.

I hear the angels singing Hallelujah.  Congrats to all those who worked so hard.  Now that you're the expert, all my questions are coming to you.  haha.  Again Erika, thanks for the workgroup...it paid off.

I actually called AACC to find out the difference as I had taken the CPP in 2015 and thought it had been presented as a certification. I was told the it was "educational" and not a certification. They said to claim certification I would need to do this new test.

The AACC Point of Care Specialist Program is an on-line class that covers just about everything in point of care testing and a test is taken after each section and is used for continuing education.

The AACC Point of Care Professional Certification (CPP) is a proctored on-line exam (no study aids allowed) consisting of 175 questions to be completed in 120 minutes.  Individuals who pass the exam are "Certified POC Professionals" and can add the initials "CPP" to their "signature" per the AACC.

Thanks again to Erika for putting the study group together.  It was great to discuss the topics with others and hear different perspectives!

I'm pleased to say that I also passed the exam and the angels are singing in Illinois too, although it may be because we're above zero degrees for the first time since Tuesday!

I also took the exam in November and passed!!

We had a wonderful study group put together by Erika Deaton-Mohney!  I believe all that attended the study sessions passed.  Thank you again, Erika!

I would suggest a study group for anyone considering taking the next exam.

Congratulations to all who passed the exam!!

Thanks for everyone's input and Congratulations to everyone who PASSED the exam!

Let me know if their is anyone interested in a study group - I'm not sure how to get one started but I could give it a try.

Hi Shea!

I have been interested in taking the exam and plan to buy the study materials shortly.  I would be very interested in a study group if one is started or help to assist getting one started.

Tawni

I would be interested in a study group for the POC Certification. I am not familiar with starting an online group but can assist if directed. What is involved?
