Neonatal ID Bands for Barcode Identification

Hi All,
Please share/experience w/ what type or what is your policy for Neonatal ID (Barcode 128) that is used for the Accu-Chek Inform ll . The nursing staff "manually" put in the MRN (Med Record #) in the Inform ll - because we don't have enough landscape to put the barcode on the newborns ID band. Some nurses scan the "chart" and others are accidentally scanning the newborns mother ID Band and will "Flag" in RALS, (and then it is edited to be uploaded) this doesn't happen that often anymore since I initiated a "Re-Training Tool" and Lock Out when this occurred.
If you do use a "band" on the OB Unit can you share w/ me the company and item # so I can present it to my staff.
Thank you!

Hi Beth,
I checked with my birthing unit and they said they use Laser Band Advance - Zebra Technology Company. She didn't know the item # but its a start. We also use the Inform II meters and RALS and have had no issues with scanning. If the baby isn't registered yet they are to type in the baby's last name and gender. Ex Smith, Boy. The scanning chart and mom is a training issue but if they can scan an armband or enter name, they probably will. They are very creative when left to their own devices. lol.
I tried to call their buyer to get an item # but she is on vacation. Let me know if you need any more info.

Inform II can also scan 2d barcodes can they not?
Hi Stephen- yes the Inform reads the 2D AZTEC but we use that box for nursing (meds, mothers milk, etc.)
IT decided that they would make 2 bands - one w/ AZTEC and one 128 Barcode label
Thank you
We use NOVA statstrip and they will read the 2D infant barcode. However the i-STAT that we use for chemistry in our NICU will not. What do other i-STAT users do for scanning on infants?
