Germicidal Wipes for Disinfecting Work Areas

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering what people are using for Disinfecting wipes. We have two kinds: Sani-Cloth Bleach Germicidal Disposable Wipes, and Sani-Cloth AF3 Germicidal Wipes. We use the Bleach ones because of C. diff, but are looking into replacing them with something else because of the 4 minute dwell time. What disinfecting wipes do other hospitals use, and does it kill C. diff? Thank you everyone.

We use bleach because of the C diff.

The disinfectant wipe does not kill C diff.

It is the 4 minute exposure that is critical.

We do the bleach wipe with 4 minutes of dwell time

Which wipe you use depends on the surface and also if C diff is a concern. Years ago my ICU switched to the Clorox germicidal wipes. I had to replace multiple
meters within the first week because they were so strong but had a short contact time. The 4 min bleach wipes are much more gentle and usually have an added detergent which can penetrate some surfaces and take a long time to disinfect. If the patient doesn’t
have C diff, you can use one of the other type of wipes which generally have high  percentages of alcohol or contain a quaternary amine. I think there are some that use peroxide as well. These non-bleach wipes generally don’t have a strong odor but shorter
contact times 1-3 minutes. Just remember they are classified by the EPA as pesticides and gloves should be worn with any of them.

We use Oxivir Tb Wipes. They smell like diapers.

Our infectious control person switched us to these from CaviWipes.
