Waived NIcotine Testing

Hello,
I am wondering if anyone does point of care or waived nicotine testing in their hospitals. We are looking for waived urine or saliva testing that can be done point of care prior to surgery.
I appreciate any information! Thank you!

We have the NicCheck 1 test strips. Our perianesthesia unit uses it to determine whether nicotine is in the patient's system prior to surgery. Its a simple enough test that is semi-quantitative.
Zach, did you do any validation of the nicotine test before you implemented? At my institution we tried to confirm the manufacturer’s cutoff for the NicQuick urine test. We used urine samples from a reference lab which had been quantitated
by GC/MS. The test kit gave “positive” results with quantities that were well below the stated cutoff.
We are looking to implement the Alere iScreen OFD Cotinine since it is for saliva.
Thanks for your response! Do you have any patient or QC logs and a policy that you could share? We are in the beginning stages of bringing this to our system and I would love to see what others have!
Thanks!
We are implementing the Cotinine test (One Step COT) and it only comes with an external positive control. I was wondering if someone had this same situation and if yes, what did you use for the negative control?
