Running QC on the Clinitek Status Plus

Hello fellow POC folks!
How many of you have your hospitals or clinics run the urine QC daily? How about according to manufactures' recommendations: every 30 days, each new lot number, new shipment? At my clinic, we run them daily. It has always been set as this, but if I can make the POC operators: MA's, RN's, PA's lives easier, then why not.
Let's hear from other places. I'm curious!!!!
Thanks,
Julie Brim

How do you monitor when they open the new bottle?
We run QC everyday, or when a new bottle is opened or a new shipment is being opened. We also document when a new bottle is opened on paper, with the date and who opened it

Urine Clinitek QC Log NEW.pdf
For my departments/clinics use, each new bottle is dated when it is opened. QC is run and print outs (if it testing performed on the clinitek) are attached to a QC resulting form that is held in a binder in the performing department (see attached). Manual read QC is written into its own log. I audit these sheets monthly. Because we just went live this past Tuesday with our new "QC each bottle you open" policy in our ER, and they are our highest volume user, I will be keeping a closer eye on them for the next few weeks.
Fortunately, we recently interfaced our Cliniteks to our medical records via Telcor. This has greatly helped us to manage the quality control and compliance more efficiently. We have setup the instruments to be locked out for patient testing when the QC is due and when one of the analytes, from either level of control fails. Users are also required to login using their badges, and their competency expires one year after initial training. Quality control reports are pulled from Telcor and corrective actions are implemented when controls have failed and they have not been repeated.
Pedro, what controls are you using for your Clinitek?
I am using the Quantimetrix Dropper Plus controls.
The manufacturer ( we use Siemens Multistix 10 SG) did not really specify frequency of QC performance, we have the users do QC every 30 days or when they open a new bottle.
Also, we were told by TJC that we need to specify the expiration date after opening ( besides what is stamped on the bottle, so we chose 90 days after opening).
Some clinics do not use as many, some do. Also I made sure they look at the leukocyte pad before using.
If pink, that means they left the bottle opened too long and humidity got to it.
We only have manual dip Uristix in one clinic. We have them run QC each day of patient testing, which is not daily since testing is not high volume. I was thinking about cutting back but was advised not to by my heme technical specialist due to strip degredation and the fact that these bottles are out of our control and may not be handled appropriately all the time.
Hello all,
We use Quantimetrix Urine QC - dropper plus bottles. Great QC and are stable at 2-8 until the expiration date. We've been using it for 3 years now and have had no problems. Good pricing with differing bottles sizes and configurations.
