Typically you would set your interface manager (Telcor, or RALS or whatever) to truncate that character before sending to Epic. I am not familiar with the specific settings on the GEM 5000, is it not able to scan in that character at all?

Unfortunately this device is not going through the interface manager.
But thanks for your input.
Just an FYI
Learned the hard way that even if the interface manager (TELCOR, RALS) allows for masking, the device must also be able to work with that 'mask'.
I need the mask to work to only allow an 8 digit (all numbers) scan to allow access to perform a patient, while not allowing a 6#1alpha EMR# to be accepted. I can't accomplish that with the masking. RALS can set it up but the INFORM II does not stop the scan/entry of the 8 digits so the testing is allowed to continue.
