RightSpot pH Indicator

I am trying to gather some information about the RightSpot pH Indicator for gastric tube placement. This is a waived test and our POCT is CAP accredited. RALS is my middleware and the HIS is EPIC. Is anyone using this product? If so I have some Qs if someone can help me out.
- The manufacture states on the website in FAQS that QC is not required but I can't find that stated in the official IFU.
Are you running QC and if so just with each lot/shipment?
What are you using for QC?
- Manual testing is currently being resulted through the manual test entry function of the Inform II meter so it is electronically resulted in EPIC. This feature is not available for this test.
How are you charting the results and tracking lot #s?
Any information would be appreciated. If anyone would be willing to share their procedure that would be great!
Thanks in advance,
Dianne

My hospital is implementing this later this year. I don't have a lot of knowledge, but send me your email and I'll send you what I have. We are going to use Acid and Base controls to verify they work correctly.....this will be inserted with a syringe and logged accordingly. QC will be done on a lot to lot basis. The results are going to be entered into the electronic medical record by the nurse, the result will then cross for the POC Coordinator to review and then submitted into the EMR. This is the process we we presently have for the Nitrazine, Hemocue, and FERN testing.
Since this is a test differentiates color, we had to implement colorblindness testing via new employee orientation. I am uncertain if they do this through online tests or if its being done in our employee clinic....I just know every nurse is now required to take this test at least once.
This test was not on the waived list for the state, so you might need to check if you'll need to present to the board for submittal to the state registry. After explaining to the State that this test was basically similar to pH paper (just enclosed) they allowed me to add it to our test menu without having to present. (Hope that made sense)
Let me know if I can help further.

Our Neonatal ICU is going live with RightBio pH indicator tubes. Per manufacturer's recommendation, POC is going to use pH 4 (positive) and pH 7 (negative) buffer solution as liquid controls that are used by the main lab's pH meter. QC will be performed per lot per shipment and documented on a manual QC log. QC log has spot for received date, lot # and expiration dates for all reagents. Patient tests are performed at the bedside and results will be entered in EMR under manual chart entry. Patient results will include lot #, expiration date and pH results.
Hi!!!
Do you mind sharing information about your buffer solution? What's the manufacturer's info? I'm looking for a replacement for the one I use.
Thank you!!!

Attached is the manufacturer's info that recommends using a buffer solution for positive and negative controls.
The buffer solution used by the main lab is made by Ricca Chemicals. They have pH 4, 7 and 10. For Rightbio pH indicators pH 4 and pH 7 is enough as controls.

Thank you!!!
Can anyone share how they handle initial training? Is this managed via nursing? Does point of care maintain and control initial training records, and annual competency?
Since this was introduced by the nursing unit. We are letting them handle their training through nurse educators. We only advised on QC documentation and requirement, rest is taken care by the unit itself.
