Gastric pH

We recently discovered that the pH indicator strips we were using in the GI Lab were not for medical use. They were from Cardinal Health P1119-1C range 0-14.
We are trying to find another pH indictor strip from Fisher. Would anyone be willing to share the strips that they use for Gastric pH.

Had you heard about the RightSpot product? It's relatively new and made exactly for that purpose.
We use this paper from Cardinal
pH Test Paper pH 0-6 P1119-5A Cardinal
and we use the guideline that "Gastric fluid has a pH of 5.0. Any pH greater than 5 should be considered negative for gastric fluid aspirate.
Good Luck,
Jeanne
We order the Ricca pH Test Strips (#8884-1) through Fisher (#30880). The range is 2.0-9.0 (0.5 increments), and each strip has three pads with separate colors so that it takes the guessing out of the issue.
We use Gastroccult cards. They are sent to the lab who run them.

Hi,
We use
MIKRO pHydrion Insta-Check pH paper 0-13,
Thank you all for the responses. Below is the answer from our Fisher rep when we asked if they were suitable for medical use.
These are all no go's
MIKRO pHydrion Insta-Check pH paper 0-13 NO / RUO (research use only)
Ricca pH Test Strips (#8884-1) through Fisher (#30880). NO / RUO
Fisher Catalog 13640516 (ALT to pH Test Paper pH 0-6 P1119-5A Cardinal) NO / RUO
Hi Sylvia,
I am not trying to be rude, but these are all basic litmus paper systems and have been being used long before your Rep. was eating Gerber baby food. He/She is probably trying to sell you on the latest and greatest "FDA approved" in line device. If these products were for RUO, CAP would have been going insane with everyone using these products. The Hydrion paper has been approved for use since well before the 1980s (probably when the FDA first opened its doors), and the others are using the same base technology but adding it to a test strip, similar you the Multistix urine pH pad. So that would have to be RUO as well.
Not a problem Sam. We simply asked for help from our Cardinal health and Fisher reps to gather the FDA status of the items we were looking at, no sales pitch involved. Thank you for your response.
Sylvia
