Verifying Certification

Has anyone had to verify certification of an employee certified through HEW as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist? We are planning to reach out to ASCP. CAP was unable to help since HEW no longer exists.

As someone who had taken the HHS/HEW exam, many moons ago. At the exam, we were all told "Do not lose your registry card or your exam scores.", because if lost they could not replace them. I believe that this was reiterated when the results and card arrived in the mail.
Some states required the exam scores if they used them for licensure. I still have both portions, even though I have my BS-MLS/CLS and ASCP certification. I would say that I am 98% certain that you will not be able to verify through the US-HHS. They would be the only federal office which you might try. CMS defiantly will not have that information, and may even corroborate what I am saying.
Reach out to your State CLIA office as HHS (formerly HEW) is more of a government based program.
I briefly went on cms.gov CLIA site but couldn’t quickly come up with any contact information.

Thank you Sam and Patsy. We'll contact our local CLIA office and see if they can help.
So, do the HEW techs not qualify to perform competency assessments for non-waived testing?
Yes, HEW/HHS Techs do qualify to perform waived testing. There was a set minimum level of education and years experience to sit for the HHS exam. Just as ASCP makes BS-MLTs wait to sit for their MT/MLS exam.
The question was posed as to how to obtain verification of an individual who states that they are an HEW/HHS Medical Technologist? If someone has an HEW/HHS Medical Technologist on staff, they can perform waived and moderately complex testing. CLIA '88 squashed high complexity testing, unless those persons obtained the proper level of education by "CLIA" standards. Registry, throughout the country, on the other hand is a totally different animal.
