Hi Everyone,
Is anyone in the group currently or have held a position for both POCC and Lab LIS/Health Informatics at the same time? I just need some insights, pros and cons of having both positions merged together and want to know how feasible this will be. Any information will be highly appreciated. Thank you.

The feasibility of this combination is entirely dependent on the system you are in. How big is the facility? How much POC is there? Is the LIS system stable and well built already or does it need a lot of updates and corrections?
I was a POC coordinator / lab manager over a medium size hospital and given what I was asked to do, both sides suffered as I could not senp enough time on either.
I am the POCC and Quality Coordinator. I work closely with our LIS person. I am in a medium sized hospital, 150 beds with a large outpatient workload, and could no way do both jobs as they are. LIS is always very busy, 1.5 FTE. I think it would depend on the scope of the LIS and POCC. We do a lot of billing corrections and insurance conformations in LIS. POCC does all the testing in surgery and CVOR along with PT testing coordination and Quality for the entire lab. Without those aspects it would be more feasible to have a combined position. So, yes I think an established programs that is running smoothly could be managed by same person, a busy person.
This is my job title. I am in a small, 120 bed hospital with a busy ED and OP workload. I am an LIS and POC department of one, and cover the Hematology bench 1-2 days per week. I handle billing edits, daily charge reconciliation, daily exception reports and all reference lab issues. I am always very busy. Since I work for a for profit corporation, there is no help on the horizon. Somehow I manage, but I really don't think they will truly appreciate what I do until I retire in about four years.
Thank you Jeremy, David and Candy for your insights. I appreciate them. It gives me a better perspective of what it could be if those two position will be merged together.
Hi Regin,
I am at a Medical Center (NY) 450 bed facility (soon to have another 200 bed facility 25 miles North). My title is Point of Cared Specialist, Laboratory Supervisor/Quality/Safety Officer. I have an assistant that has the title POCC. I have direct contact with the LIS "Lab Beaker Team" (we use EPIC for EHR)- the title for the LIS is EPIC Beaker Analyst. All of the Beaker Analyst are MT (CLS) as well. Most of the Analyst worked in the Lab and went to the IT side- this makes a perfect fit when mapping the lab w/ IT.
