i-STAT Printers

For those that have their i-STATS interfaced.
Do you allow the use of i-STAT printers?
This is outside of downtime.

Thank you, Sylvia

We use the iSTAT printers frequently in several areas;  the printouts are not considered the chartable copy but allow result review without having to dock after every test.

Yes, while not being the norm some physicians insist on seeing the printed results prior to making any decisions.  These ribbon results are discarded afterwards as the iSTAT results upload into the patients EMR once docked.

We use the printers most frequently in our operating rooms where they can give the surgeon fast results without docking the i-STAT. The Anesthesia techs then send us a copy of the tapes to keep for 2 years.

Our Istats are wireless, But we have the printers so the Nurses can show the DR. results if a test gets held for evaluation, when the test is released after review, and charted that printout means nothing.
All of our Istat areas have the printers, just in case. Hope this helps...

We also allow printing from the iSTAT in our ED.  If you have the iSTATs covered by the service contract, then the printers and electronic simulators are also covered.

We only have the printers for use if there is going to be a major downtime.  We keep them in the POCT office and will deploy them if needed.

If you have the iSTATs covered by the service contract, then the printers and electronic simulators are also covered.
Off Topic, but Fyi:
We have found that the service contract is not worth the price (we only have 15 Istats)
I have only had 1 printer fail in over 14 years and we have maybe 1-2 istats get dropped a year, so the price of the service contract was just to high for us.
Hope this helps.....

We have printers in most areas - certain departments use them more than others. We have wireless meters but in some cases like cath lab and trauma, they like to have the print outs in front of them.
