Yes, we use the Abbott PXP meter

We use the Freestyle Precision Pro for ketones with direct connect through QML.

I also have experience with the Abbott PxP and ketones at a previous facility.  It was limited it only being performed in the lab due to its low test volume.  I don't recall having any issues or complaints with it.

Thank you for the reply. Was it worth the price? Our Peds Department is requesting one but I am not sure if the price is worth it, considering it might be low test volume. 

Another question: When I talked to the sales rep. She said the device is not yet FDA approved for critically ill patients. How do you guys make sure that the nurses upstairs are not using this for critical px? Thank you

We use Nova Biomedical's NovaMax Plus. It's not hospital grade, or interfaced, but our Endo Department says it's a game changer for their patients.

FDA approval for critically ill:  the bane of all glucometers and POC.  This is all in how each manufacturer worded their proposal to the FDA.  No glucometer is going to be able to give reliable venous glucose results on a fingerstick sample from a patient with poor circulation:  Bad sample = bad result.
I've tried addressing this at several facilities with recommendations of limiting/restricting their usage on "Critically ill" patients.  The first problem with this is how do you define "Critically ill"  nobody wants to spell this out.  Second, nobody wants to give up their glucometer fingerstick and send a venous sample to the lab.
It falls down to adding a disclaimer comment on every glucometer result.

Are you talking critically ill for glucose or ketone?  For us, we only use the ketone strips, our glucometer is Nova Statstrip.  Our Endo dept has been trying to get a ketone for awhile.   It's not one of our high volume tests but since the Freestyle was the only one with lockouts it was worth the money.  

We're part of a large health system and about 5 out of 20+ hospitals use it on the Abbott FSPP meter - some in centralized lab setting, some at POC.  I think it makes a lot of sense, considering the other options to be the very crude Acetest type tablets - unless you have an alternate centralized lab analyzer that can do it.  I personally would wholeheartedly support its use to replace acetest tablets in a centralized setting - if request volumes don't support having it at the POC.

We use the Abbott Freestyle. As it is a low volume test we keep it in the central lab. Since we use the same meter at POC for glucose, ketone strips are only available to the lab.
