Piccolo Xpress waived potassium

Happy Friday!

I have an outpatient facility that recently placed a request for a POC device that performs waived potassium tests. Previously, they used the i-stat but it was pulled after the recall deeming it moderately complex. I did some research and it looks like the Picciolo Xpress Chemistry Analyzer would be my only waived POC option. Does anyone have any experience positive or negative that they can share for this device?

Hi Tierra!
We use the Piccolo out at our Emergency Centers and they are good, however are very expensive and take a while for the results.   Which iStat cartridge were you using?

We have a Piccolo for comprehensive profiles. The electrolytes are very inconsistent compared to our i-STATs. We end up running it a second time on the i-STAT if they are abnormal. I wouldn't recommend the Piccolo myself. Good luck

Thanks for the feedback. Ashlee, they were using the E3+ cartridges which are now discontinued.

We use the Piccolo in our Surgi Centers and we have them connected to our QML.  They are very easy to use and minimal upkeep.  The only issue that in POCT world 12 mins for a result is kinda long but otherwise it's a dependable instrument.

The Piccolo is a great analyzer, when Abbott recalled the I-STAT the piccolo saved the day, using for over a year now. Chemistry cmp2 panel.
