Abbott Binax NOW COVID procedure

Good morning. We are probably going to be bringing on the Binax COVID Ag test. Would anyone be willing to share a procedure, pros/cons, likes/dislikes?

Thanks in advance!

The test can only be used on symptomatic patients within a few days of symptom onset. Positives are good, but negatives need to be followed up. We used this extensively at many of our sites when positivity rates were high, but then stopped when our state started looking better. It may or may not be brought back again, like everywhere else, our positivity rates are increasing. When we used it, we'd get 2 swabs, on for the Binax, and one for sending to the lab for negatives. I can send the procedure to your email if you send it to me.

That would be great and thanks for the insight. I will pass it to my leadership. My email is jessica.lang@stelizabeth.com.

Hi Kathleen,
Are you having any trouble getting the Kit?  Would you mind sending me a copy of the procedure?  diana.meyer@deaconess.com
We have had parents of NICU babies passing the screening but then testing positive later.  Since they are not symptomatic or at least not sharing that
would we be able to use this test?

This test is not good for asymptomatic patients and to overcome that, the manufacturer is recommending two tests at least 24 hours apart.  We choose to use a test with better quality rather than testing patients twice.

Diana, we are no longer using the Binax Now test, so haven't tried to purchase any recently. The kits we were using had been purchased by our state lab, and distributed to the hospitals.  Even when we were using the test, for symptomatic people only, we were collecting a second swab to send for PCR if the test was negative.
I'll send our procedure to your email.

Debbie , What are you using for testing?

Hi Diana, many of the labs I consult with are using central lab equipment for their antigen testing.

Thanks Debbie and Kathleen, we are on hold to gather more information, appreciate your time and input
