POCT models

Does anyone out there have a different model for POCT besides having the units/clinics, etc. purchasing their own devices and supplies? Tricore is starting to market POCT services, and looking at what the models should be. Does anyone have the hospital/system/POCT do any purchase of devices and/or supplies?
Thanks!

Hi Kathleen,
At our site if the lab is billing for a test then the lab/POC purchases the device and supplies.

POC/lab purchases everything related to POC but we also collect all revenue. Can't say I know much about it - it's just always been that way.

Our lab purchases most of the POCT equipment, ACT and the Istat cartridges for our inpatient program unless it’s a new build.  In that case the POCT equipment is budgeted in the project.  The satellite practices will purchase any replacement instruments and their supplies. The lab gets the revenue for any IP tests (mostly Istat and some glucose).

Thanks for the feedback!

The departments buy the equipment and pay for the initial link to RALS if applicable. We buy the reagents and the lab collects the revenue.

POC makes all purchases for any of our facilities.  That way, we have an idea of how much they use and can order more supplies, when needed..

Y'all, thanks for the replies. It's really helpful to see how all the different sites handle the costs and revenue.

I am hospital based with no central lab.  We have the department using the testing order all their equipment and supplies.  They also get the revenue.

Our POCT is lab-based, too. We have the contracts and purchase most of the supplies. Everything goes under our cost center except for the Werfen ACT supplies.
