In House Verification Procedure for Temp-Chex red spirit thermometers

Hi All,

We use Temp-Chex red spirit thermometers. We have a total of 74- a combination of refrigerator, incubator, and freezer. Would anyone would be willing to share their procedure for annual verification? I have two H-B Instruments immersible thermometers that I just had recalibrated for comparison. Written "instructions" that I happened upon refer to placing the calibrated thermometer in methyl alcohol to record temps in an incubated setting , then repeating for refrigerator and freezer thermometers. The "Instructions" also state: "make sure the alcohol is concentrated enough that it won't freeze in the freezer with the thermometer in it. Also you can use a glycerine solution but you will have to see how much you will need so it doesn't freeze." The POCT coordinator before me didn't mention the written "instructions". She just told me to "gather all of the thermometers and place them in the 3 settings, two different locations." Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you.
