6 month glucometer competency - yes or no?

Good morning,
We currently provide initial training, give staff 6 month interim certification with tasks to complete within the glucometer, then annual recertification (tasks) based on their initial training date. Is anyone doing the same or are you giving the initial training then a year access?  We require 6 month certifications for all of our other point of care tests as well. Thank you!

We do initial, than annually. Since our glucometers are waived, 6-month is not required - so we don't.

Yep, I think that's more common now for the waived testing.

We do the same as Terry - initial and then annually due to it being waived.

For Waived testing  (Glucose)we only do initial and annual. For moderate complexity we do Initial, 6 month, & annual.

We do initial and annual for waived testing.

We do initial training and then we require new hires to run a glucose QC at 6-months and then annual competency.

We do not do 6 month for our waived glucometers but our accreditation by CAP does not require it. I believe Cola does require a 6 month for waived testing. Before and changes..go to the standards and verify what your options are.
:)

For most of our sites, under CAP or CMS, we do glucose meter training, then annual competency assessment. Neither of these regulatory agencies require it of waived testing. Our freestanding EDs are under COLA, and they do require 6 month competency assessment for all tests. Since they also do mod complex testing, we just do it all at the same time. However, there are only a couple hundred operators for those sites--we have approximately 10000 glucose operators in our system, and the annual is quite enough to be getting on with!

We do not do a 6-month competency check. However, I believe if you are COLA accredited a 6-month is still required for waived testing.
