Drug Screen Charging for POCT

I have a question about POCT Drug Screen charges. If these are only Presumptive Positive and they must be send out for confirmation can we not charge for them? I know we cannot "double" charge for testing but if the POCT is CPT 80305 and the send out would be a different CPT (80307 maybe) does that mean we can charge for both tests?
This is a new request for me and I want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row :)

Thanks

The CPT codes for screening and confirmatory testing are different and can both be billed. 80305 should apply to most POCT based screens, whereas 80307 is used for chemistry analyzer based screening panels (and the Triage Tox POCT I believe). The rule is that only 1 screen AND 1 confirmation charge is allowed per day of service, so you should not have any issues.

Good to know, Derek.
Back in the day of performing rapid streps in outpatient/clinics, getting a negative, sending out for culture per MIFU meant we'd not get reimbursed for any of the rapid streps. The lab recovered on the cultures.

Happy Friday, all!
