iSTAT Competency TJC and CAP

I would definitely challenge that if they cited you for it. All iSTAT cartridges for the most part have the same testing process. As long as you include in your competency the differences, if any, of each cartridge, you are fine. Like iSTAT Trop and HCG require the hanging drop, other than that the process is the same as other cartridges.

I have several iSTAT cartridges in use, and each unit performs different testing, some just ACTs or PT/INRs, some blood gases, etc.  I have several competency forms, and they are difficult to keep up with.  I also have endusers who work mainly in one unit but moonlight in areas that use different cartridges.  Herding cats......... I am currently in the process of consolidating my checklists and quizzes for the iSTAT into one competency with different sections unique to each cartridge. My hope is that this will make it easier for the POC testing office staff to keep up with the competencies, while addressing the uniqueness of each cartridge type.
