iSTAT and NICU blood gases

We are long time iSTAT users, but have not used in the neonatal ICU.  The request is for blood gases, and we would use EG7 cartridges. iSTAT tech service will tell you that cord blood is an acceptable sample type but does not have it listed in current IFU.  If you are using cord blood what reference ranges are you using?
Thanks
Kim

Hi Kim,
We use the Istat in our NICUs for many years and use the EG7.  Most of the samples are capillary or arterial just because of the baby size.  We also have cord blood added (venous and arterial) as a sample type in our L&D.  We used the same ranges on the instrument as the Arterial samples or Venous samples but there were not reference ranges for cord blood samples though.  It is up for the doctor to interpret the values in relation to what they expect to see.
