pleural pH POCT istat epoc LDT

Pleural fluid pH epoc istat testers, I know you're out there!

CAP lists 50 labs using the iSTAT for pleural fluid pH and 11 labs using epocs

API lists 19 labs using the iSTAT and 13 using epoc

I know this is an LDT test. I know there is a great deal of validations, reference range studies , analytical range studies, etc etc etc

However, these studies are not practical and would be almost impossible to meet the LDT criterium.

But I know you're out there.

Can anyone send any information about the validity of pH pleural fluid testing on the epoc or istat? And/or how the CAP checklist is satisfied? All pulmonologists swear this is the gold standard. But I think that might be grapevine talk.

Thank you,

Our lab also is interested in doing a lab developed test for using the iSTAT for pH for pleural fluid.  Have you gotten any insight as to how to go about doing this? Our current pH meter needs to be calibrated every day, which is an hour combined between the calibration and QC, which is impractical for us.  Please let me know if you have figured anything out regarding this, thanks!
