Glucometer certification expiration

How do you handle when an operators certification expires on glucometers? Our current process is hands on training, qc validation with education- then a quiz in netlearning and certified for 12 months. Certification is renewed if they run qc within the year. If someone allows their expiration to lapse, should they be required to redo the training all over or is their a grade period that can be given?

For us, since this is a waived test, we allow some days to lapse. Usually, they complain (though they ignore the on-screen warnings) and we update them in the software and have them run both levels of QC.....unless they have been away, such as a traveler, for months. Then we inactivate them.
We have an online quiz they take and they are required to run QC. The quiz is supposed to automatically appear in their learning module, but we are still working on the kinks for that. If they lapse, they usually call to complain. We explain they need to take the quiz and do the QC.
