COM.04050 Error Detection

How do you respond to this standard for POC?  If you state the physician evaluates the appropriateness of the result, how do you know that is occurring and errors are being caught?  What evidence do you have that the process is effective?  Are there other options other than error codes and lockouts that occur?

What is your process for correcting results? You could document/review these corrected reports. You can also monitor tests that are repeated to compare results.

We also monitor error codes, qc failures, and reported issues monthly to ensure there are no specific meters having issues.

COM.04050 states there is a procedure.  We have a procedure for Corrected Reports and correction of lab results, and often we use an example of someone who ran an ABG but it should have been a VBG and we are notified via e-mail by the RTs.  We also monitor this for other failures, but ultimately are using the policy as our evidence.

The policy has a section on correction of manual reports/paper copies also.
