QC POC GLUCOSE

Good afternoon,

We have a HemoCue Glucose 201 in our POCT lab.  For QC we use 2 levels of Eurotrol GlucoTrol-AQ solutions on days of patient testing.  Our ambulance service has a "multi-patient meter" and performs one level of QC (not sure if it's high or low).  Our clinics may be purchasing the same meter as the ambulance and may follow their QC procedure. I've advised them to use two levels of controls on each day of patient testing.   What is your QC procedure for POC glucometers?

Thank you in advance for your reply.

We run 2 levels. The package insert say everyday of patient testing. I have clinics who just want to perform it first thing every morning and some who do not do glucoses that often and perform QC before patient testing. I allow that as long as the QC is being done as needed. If not they will go to everyday.

We require 2 levels of QC every 24 hours. Our meters have a lock out that will not allow patient testing unless the QC has been performed. Most of our units run the QC during third shift, so the meters are always ready to go during first and second shifts when most testing is being done.

We also use 2 levels of QC for the glucose meters. With waived testing, it's important to follow manufacturers instructions, so check the one for the ambulance and see what it says. CLIA does require 2 levels of QC each day of patient testing, and that's what most people do for all tests. But if the IFU states something different, for waived tests you need to follow that. I can't imagine why any manufacturer would not require 2 levels of QC, but it's possible.

We do the same as Anastasia.  2 levels each day of patient testing, and the site gets to decide when they want to do them.

We also do 2 levels every 24 hrs.  The meter will lockdown until both levels are successful.
