Cord blood collections

Blood bank has reported an increase in clotted cord blood specimens. Upon investigation, there was a change to draining into a cup and then adding to the lavender tube. Previously the blood was collected via syringe insertion into the cord which resulted in an increased needle stick risk. What is the procedure for your collections? Any devices to improve collection without increased risk of needle sticks?
