i-STAT ACT and PT INR Calibration Verification

All,

We are using i-stat for PT and ACT. What are you all doing for calibration verifications? I see technical bulletin for ACT but I am not seeing anything for PT? I think I am missing something and need assistance! Any other methods?

We do not perform per CAP POC.08600
AMR verification is not required for clot-based coagulation tests, platelet function tests, and other tests where output is a unit of time or arbitrary reporting unit (rather than measured analyte concentration).
In a 2021 CAP inspection - inspector thought should do for ACTk using tech bulletin, but CAP was called on that date and verified that this was not a requuriement.  I have done this ACTk with new test implementation in the past but do not every 6 months.

I use the Medtronic HEPLine kit for the iSTAT ACTk linearity, much easier than the Abbott technical bulletin. The kit comes with 5 vials which contain 1-5 units of heparin; you can run a baseline and then each of the heparinized vials. Just need a willing donor to fill the vials. If you want more information just let me know.
I would check with your regulatory agency or Abbott about the PT, there may not be any requirements since it is a coagulation test.
Hope this helps, Kerri

Agree with Patsy - not required for coagulation-based assays per CAP.

Gosh, I think I’m driving myself crazy! I somehow completely skipped over POC.08450 and POC.08600. Thank you all for this slap back into reality!
