Self-Collect Wet Preps

Hi All,

We have many providers in our clinics and urgent cares that are trending toward the self-collect process for wet prep/STI screening swab.   When this was first established, around 2018, the policy was set up to allow ages 16+ to self-collect the swabs.  It was matched with the acceptable age group for the CG/Chlamidia   With the new providers coming on board with the process, we are getting a lot of inquiry about that age restriction.

Do any of your facilities allow for the self-collecting and what age groups?   Do you have any studies to support the guidance?

Thanks all,
Carrie

I'm interested in responses to this as well.  I was recently requested to investigate a self-collected POC GC/chlamydia/trichomoniasis PCR test.  I've seen too many UA samples with mouthwash added to think this is a good idea.
