iSTAT CG8 PO2 validation

Hi All,
We are in the process of validation testing for iSTAT CG8 cartridge. We are struggling to get PO2 and TCO2 to reach the target value Eurotrol has assigned on the Cal Ver material. For every level we are recovering between 91.2% and 96% which fails our EP Evaluator parameters (>97%). Example L2= 164 and we recovered 154, 151, 156. What are you using for cal ver material? Anyone else struggle to get these parameters in? We've tried it multiple times changing the working temp conditions, how we mix the sample, always being super careful to not expose to ambient air ect. Thanks for any advice you may have!

try to use needle (18G) with syringe (3ml) while pipetting.

I dunno, methinks you may need to relax your EP evaluator parameters with your medical director's permission if necessary.  Those numbers don't look bad.  And if that's for pO2, extrapolate that to a patient value, and there isn't going to be any difference in clinical outcomes at that level.  Any reason you're not using Abbott's product for cal ver?  I use Eurotrol also, but just for very low pO2.  Never have any problem, just using the linearity calculator in UniPOC, with Abbott TriControl Cal Ver Kit.

We're using the Abbott TriControl CalVer as well. We usually don't have any problems.

But, we typically put the rubber guard onto the vial before mixing. This way there's less heat transfer from your hands/fingers to the vial.
Your values are really consistent, any chance you're warming the vial too much while mixing?

Try using a 1 cc syringe w/ non-filtered 18 g or blunt needle.  We typically don't have an issue with this range of pO2, more the lower range going too high or the hyperbaric range.  The 1cc helps.  I do agree that's a pretty tight range for pO2.

Thanks for all the informative posts and phone calls! These CG8 cartridges are a bit different from what we are used to working with and it's been eons since I've worked with blood gases in general. I'll be reviewing our EP Evaluator settings and taking some of the advice from you guys for sure! Hopefully this will a lot easier on the next round in 6months! Live and Learn!

Agree with James on EP evaluator settings. That seems really tight. Are you using the hyperbaric from Eurotrol to do this?

We are revalidating the iStat for the OR but having issues with the EG7+ cartridges, the pO2 and pCO2 correlation. They hardly correlate to the main lab Nova Prime Plus. Any ideas? How do you go about the 8% TAE from CAP? What % do you use? How many samples? We run 5 patients on the main iStat.
